Lego space elevator

Introduction

This machine is a self constructing space elevator. (well not really)

It pick up modules at ground level and then brings them up to the top of the tower and then snaps them into place with 4 technic pins. This at the astonishing speed of 5mm/s...

Obviously this isn't a practical solution for a space elevator. Even if it could resist high wind speeds it would eventually be crushed by it's own weight. And then there is the problem with time, it would take about 7432 years to construct.

It is controlled by 3 EV3 units with 12 motors and 9 sensors.

How it all started

The idea for this project came from a video about the world record of highest lego tower.

The record however is a bit of a scam. There seems to be more steel bars and steel wire then actuall lego bricks...

So i wanted to make a tower with no none lego material or tools, which would include ladders, cranes etc.

The solution for that was a machine built out of lego that assemble the tower on it's own.

My first version of the machine use classic 2x4 bricks which would end up with a tower completely built by the machine.

But i couldn't get it to work so i ended up with a version that use pre assembled modules.
