TV cabinet

Introduction

This project was pitched by a colleague of mine. He wanted to make one himself but never ended up doing it.

I thought it was a cool idea for a project so i decided to give it a shot.

Did some cad drawing and made som rough calculations for lifting the tv with a motor. My conclusion was that it should be doable.

Two linear actuators made of a screw and a nut driven by a motor connected with a toothed belt and then some sensors for the end positions. Rather straightforward.

So i decided to built it.

Build process version 1

Stage 1

Some picture of the inner frame and the lifting mechanism.

Pictures from the building process.

Stage 2

Some picture of the electronics and more of the lifting mechanism.

Stage 3

Video of the elevator and the top movement. (+ some pictures)

Stage 4

Some pictures of the completed cabinet.

Conclusion:

After completing the tv cabinet i thought the functions worked great and the speed was good enough.

However it was kinda loud, especially the lifting movement.

Most of the noise seems to come from the lifting screws and the belt driving the lifting screws.

So after several months i decided to rebuild it.

Version 2

The plan was to replace the lifting screws with a belt drive and a counterweight to reduce the amount of energi needed to lift the tv and keep it in the upper position without the need of a brake.
